👋 Hello, I’m Ryan Schachte. This is my corner of the internet where I like to ramble about random software related things. I live in California and enjoy traveling, running & cycling, hanging out with my cat Tuffie and reading.

I’m a systems engineer at Cloudflare currently working on R2, previously Cloudflare Stream. I enjoy learning about networks, programming languages, distributed systems and UX design.

Side projects

I’m usually always screwing around with random topics on my Github. Here are a few selected projects I've had fun with in the past & present.

Work Experience

  • Nordstrom - (Feb 2020 - May 2022): Team lead working with engineers to implement a new graph analytics platform for identity tracking and fraud detection for Nordstrom’s e-commerce platform.
  • Connexta (acquired by IBM) - (Jan 2018 - Feb 2020): Primarily worked on DDF (distributed data framework), which is an open-source government metadata search engine for geospatial based queries. Contributed to private fork to further geospatial search tooling leveraged by the NGA (National Geospatial Intelligence Agency).
  • Exxonmobil - (Summer 2017): Built geophysical monitoring tools for passive seismic operations performed in Canadian oil fields. Worked on machine learning and dev-ops tooling to detect seismic anomalies including interactive dashboard and alerting.
  • Allstate - (Fall/Spring 2016-2017): Worked on various tooling in Allstate’s new incubation lab called CompoZed Labs for designing open-source software.
  • IBM - (Summer 2016): Joined the IBM key protect team responsible for distributed key management, similar to AWS KMS. Built various tools for auto-scaling and load distribution on IBM Bluemix.
  • SimpleWAN - (Summer/Fall 2015): Web development intern at small startup focused on software security around SimpleWAN’s network management tooling that paired with their WAN hardware.
  • Intel - (Summer 2015): Firmware engineer intern working on XPoint 3D memory management team, also branded as “Optane”, which is Intel’s now discontinued non-volatile (NVM) memory tech.
